TESTIMONIALS

Michael, age 78

I am a retired academic psychologist who began playing the clarinet again 13 years ago after a lapse of almost 50 years. I have been working with Alexys for over six months now, and I love working with her. She challenges me, always knowing exactly what I need to work on most and what level of difficulty I can handle. She is supportive, builds my confidence, and I always feel good when a lesson is over. Her assignments are realistic in both length and level of difficulty and she makes me want to practice when I get home. I hope we will be able to work together for some time to come!

My path crossed with Alexys when I was in sixth grade. Now, I'm a freshman in college studying English with a minor in music. Since that time, I have been a five year member of the Mississippi Lions All-State Band, four of them as first chair, and I am now principle clarinetist for the University of Mississippi Wind Ensemble. Alexys was my instructor at a middle school band camp in south Mississippi when she was a junior in high school. Her persistence in and for me encouraged not only my enjoyment of playing, but also my belief in myself. I remember sitting across from Alexys, playing my scales, and being met with excitement and confidence that I would continue to play more and better than I thought I could at such a young age. In addition her preparation for the sectional rehearsal time at this camp was evident, and I probably still have a couple of her handouts stashed away in my music library. Being her student for a mere four days, even so many years ago, has definitely stuck with me and I have enjoyed growing up to watch Alexys continue her career as a performer and educator.

Alexys is such a delight to work with! My son has had several clarinet teachers over the years and Alexys is his favorite. In addition to being kind, patient and encouraging, she is also excellent at assessing my son's abilities and tailoring the lessons accordingly. Alexys is organized, easy to communicate with and has the perfect blend of warmth and professionalism. She was instrumental in helping my son prepare for his successful All-State Audition. We are very grateful to have found her.

Alexys always made me feel so welcome every time I stepped into a private lesson with her. One of her main focuses in our lessons was of course to increase my knowledge of clarinet fundamentals and performance, but also musicality and expression. She was always such a patient and gentle instructor and always sought to make me feel confident in my mistakes and victories throughout my music career. I would recommend any aspiring clarinet player to Alexys for her services, and I will forever be grateful for her time as my instructor.

Band Director

Alexys is knowledgeable, professional, and engaging. She works hard to meet individual student needs and is able to push them to achieving greater things. I’m thankful for her willingness to impart her knowledge to students.

High School Student

You were one of my best sectionals teachers in high school. You took the time to find how each of us learned and helped us from there. You also went out of your way to help me prepare for my audition for college and for that I am so thankful.

I loved being taught by you so much, you’re such a gentle and patient teacher and you always made sure everyone got the music before we moved on to anything else. Under your instruction I felt myself become a better player every sectional we had together, it was an honor to be taught by such an amazing clarinet player.
